Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, like it’s harsher cleaning agent cousin, sodium lauryl sulfate, is derived from sarcosine, an amino acid that your body makes naturally. It’s a surfactant known to be a thorough cleanser but also gentle on the skin, (much gentler than sodium lauryl sulfate). In shampoos, cleansers and masks it attracts oil and dirt, and removes them by emulsification, and then rinses away with water.

The ingredient is derived from sarcosine, (which is produced by the breakdown of creatine or caffeine) and then combined with lauric acid, a fatty acid from coconut or palm kernels. In addition to removing dirt & oil from the hair and skin, it also removes bacteria!  It also acts as an “emulsifier”, which helps to mix water and oil. It tends not to strip the natural moisture from the skin., even during the cleansing process.

It is listed in the Handbook of Green Chemicals and supported by natural beauty experts.

Bifida Ferment Lysate is a probiotic used in many skincare serums obtained by the fermentation of Bifida bacteria. As the ingredient goes through fermentation process vitamins, amino acids, and antioxidants are organically produced.

Fermentation also breaks down key molecules into smaller structures more easily absorbed into the skin. This absorption, and the probiotic interactions are thought to facilitate more optimal hydration and give the skin a smooth, supple appearance.

Studies have found that Bifida Ferment Lysate protects against UV radiation due to improved barrier function that also leads to more complete hydration of the skin, strengthen the skin’s immune system, and reduces inflammation and reactivity.

Protection against UV documented in a 2009 patent may also assist in DNA repair, and prevent DNA breakdown.Exposure to the skin to friendly bacterial conpounds like Bifida Ferment Lysate can “train” the skin to be more resistant to unfriendly bacteria and less sensitive to environmental irritants.
