Madecassoside, like it’s cousin Asiaticoside are both from the Centella Asiatica plant, (the Indian PennyWort). It has truly  pharmacological properties and can be found in both drugs and cosmetics. On the skincare side, Madecassoside promotes collagen synthesis during both an actual “wound healing event”, and during “simulated injury” treatments like microneedling, microchanneling and acoustic wave therapy. It’s also found in topical moisturizers, serums, and creams to help with your skin’s moisture barrier; both barrier repair after treatment, and to reduce sensitivity to environmental irritants. Outside of skincare, on the medicine side, Madecassoside is used to treat brain injuries and neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Madecassoside is anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-allergic, anti-depressant and anxiolitic in it’s pharmacological effects upon tissue and biological systems, and as a cosmetic ingredient is included in levels safe for all skin types and conditions. People with sensitive skin or allergies to the Centella Asiatica plant may experience some skin irritation, and should be tested for sensitivity on a small patch of discreet skin prior to use.

Copper Tripeptide-1 is known to both break down scar tissue, while promoting the formation of new collagen. This is the foundational feature  of Copper Tripeptide-1 that makes it a valuable skin care ingredient.

The periodic table designation of Copper is Cu. And when copper combines with three specific amino acids, (namely glycine, histidine and lysine) a molecule called Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) is formed.  Like we said it promotes new, younger collagen, while breaking down the stiff collagen that forms scars and shapes deep wrinkles. It also stimulates the production of vital skin identical substances like elastin, and glycosaminoglycans, it’s also anti-inflammatory. It plays a key role in skin rejuvenation and anti-aging by helping to improve elasticity and firmness, while enhancing brightness by clarifying pigmentary irregularities. All this combines to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and premature aging.

It’s also known to enlarge miniaturized, (and miniaturizing) follicles in the scalp that contribute to thinning of the hair. And so it’s great for improving the appearance of your hair as well!

Sh-Oligopeptide-1 is a peptide also known as Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). It stimulates the expression and growth of some of the most sophisticated epithelial cells found in mammalian biology called “Keratinocytes” that make up the epidermal layer of your skin. An Oligopeptide may be technically simpler than a polypeptide, (“oli” meaning “a few”, and “poly” meaning “many”) because it consists of fewer amino acids than a polypeptide. But oligopeptides can be capable of more or less sophisticated activities than polypeptides. It all depends on the combination of amino acids involved, the signalling potential that’s orchestrated, and the cells and organelles involved! Epidermal Growth Factor enables one of the most significant cascades of activity of all the growth factors because the barrier function of your skin is essential to your health, and even your life!

Sh-Oligopeptide 1 is a member of a group of peptides known as growth factors. Growth factors stimulate  cell division, growth, and differentiation. In epithelial cells like we find in your skin EGF is tone of the keys to cell turnover and your skin cycle.

By the way, epithelial cells are cells designed to form a protective barrier over various organs including your dermis. Heat, light, sensations, irritants, gases and even pathogens must cross this boundary in order to effect your bodily organs. Epithelial cells come in several shapes like: cubes, columns, hair like, irregular and and “squamous” (flat) in your skin. These amazing protective barriers, (liker the epidermal layer on top of your dermis that forms what we call your “skin”) can be just one cell thick around some organs or, like your epidermis, constructed of several layers.

When included as an ingredient in skincare products Sh-Oligopeptide-1, (Epidermal Growth Factor, or EGF) has been shown to accelerate wound healing and collagen production. It can also visibly reduce dark and brown spot, and even reduce acne breakouts by what is believed to be its contribution to the improvement of the epidermal barrier.
