Tretinoin is a powerful Vitamin A derivative that can treat acne and other skin conditions when applied topically. It’s in a family of topicals commonly called “retinoids.” Retinoids can come in prescription levels, (typically above 1% concentration with brand names like “Retin-A” and “Renova.”), and more commonly as an ingredient in over the counter skin care products with names like “Retinyl Palmitate”, “Retinyl Acetate”, “Retinyl Linoleate”, in concentrations of less that 1%.
