Is DiamondTome really Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is defined in the Wikipedia dictionary as: as: A cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove dead epidermal cells. Alternatively it is also defined as: a skin-care technique that uses tiny rough grains or a mechanical medium to buff away the surface layer of skin. The appearance of both definitions reveal the evolution of microdermabrasion that has occurred over the past quarter century or so…

Microdermabrasion & The Skin

Historically microdermabrasion can be traced to a device invented by Drs. Mattioli & Brutto in Italy in1985. The device employed a closed loop vacuum system that used vacuum pressure to extract pure aluminum oxide crystals from a sealed container and propel them through an aperture onto the skin, while simultaneously removing the crystals and resulting exfoliated skin through a second aperture and into a waste canister.

For over a decade this “traditional” form of microdermabrasion remained the standard and microdermabrasion became (and remains) one of the most popular treatments in the aesthetic industry.

In 1998 Engineer Steve Waldron, (Altair Instruments, Inc.) who had already participated in the development and patent of a number of manufacturing techniques and devices involving the precise placement and application of diamond chips for various abrasive functions developed a “crystal free” microdermabrasion system. The device employed the same closed loop vacuum principle applied by Mattioli & Brutto, but replaced the flow of abrasive media with diamond chips fixed to the treatment aperture.

In doing so Waldron’s practitioners were able to accomplish the goal of microdermabrasion (superficial mechanical exfoliation of the stratum corneum) while eliminating many of the complications associated with earlier devices.

  • Eliminating the flow of crystals eliminated crystal penetration of the vacuum system increasing system longevity.
  • Diamonds are a sharper medium and exfoliate more thoroughly with less irritation
  • DiamondTome diamond microdermabrasion requires no clean up of excess crystals and combines more easily with other treatments
  • The need to keep buyng crystals was eliminated
  • Without a reliance on a steady flow of crystals, the DiamondTome diamond microdermabrasion system performs in a uniform fashion, unaffected by clogs or humidity.
  • Crystal residue left embedded in the skin was eliminated
  • DiamondTome systems can operate at much lower vacuum levels, making treatment of even sensitive skin possible.

After over a decade in the marketplace DiamondTome became the industry standard for microdermabrasion.  Among dermatologists, plastic surgeons and aestheticians the advantages have propelled Diamondtome to become the top selling medical microdermabrasion system in the world. Having been freed from the problems of traditional crystal microdermabrasion, and now able to more confidently perform it, DiamondTome microdermabrasion has held it’s place as one of the top two non-invasive therapies in the aesthetic industry.

The DiamondTome family of skin exfoliation systems are the original, patented crystal free skin resurfacing and microdermabrasion machines. All use the patented DiamondTome wands to perform treatments from superficial exfoliation to medical microdermabrasion. DiamondTome achieves a precision medical level mechanical exfoliation to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and photo-damage, to help reduce acne breakouts, and to improve overall tone, texture and improve skin laxity. THe clean finish of a Diamondtome treatment also enhances the penetration of a variety of skincare products.

The DiamondTome Wand is the only patented crystal free microderm & resurfacing instrument. The precisely sized and shaped diamonds are applied to the face of the surgical stainless steel wand in a proprietary pattern that produces reliable, simple, and reproducible results every time. DiamondTome wands may be sterilized via autoclave.

Microdermabrasion for Skin Lightening and Clarification

Exposure to the elements, diet, acne and other factors put a lot of stress on our skin. The resulting effect is skin that isn’t as clear and beautiful as it used to be. Luckily, there are painless treatments that reveal the youthful skin hiding beneath the surface.

DiamondTome diamond microdermabrasion is an inexpensive and effective option for clarifying and lightening your skin.

Skin lightening with microdermabrasion, especially with one of DiamondTome’s crystal free devices, is one of the least invasive procedures available. Other procedures such as IPL can be very effective, but also result in pain and even possible damage to your skin. Microderm skin lightening is safe, easy and can even be done from the comfort of your home.

The DiamondTome clarifying and skin lightening procedure works by using precisely sized an shaped diamond chips to remove the dead layer of skin. The fine diamond chips are affixed to a surgical steel wand that glides across the surface of the skin removing dead cells with gentle vacuum pressure.

DiamondTome diamond microderm for clarification and skin lightening leaves your skin visibly free of fine lines, skin blemishes, dark marks, and other skin discolorations.  It’s important to remember that although you will see some results after one treatment, achieving effective, semi-permanent skin lightening will require a six or more sessions, along with follow up home care using skin lightening cream.

DiamondTome diamond microderm will even your skin tone, diminish scars and fade dark marks with no down time and minimal recovery.  It helps skin lightening products penetrate the skin more rapidly, and more completely. The enhanced penetration of products makes DiamondTome the best choice for dramatic skin lightening, especially for Fitzpatrickskin types IV, V & VI who are not good candidates for laser and IPL treatments.  All in all, Microdermabrasion is a good treatment for individuals with normal skin damage caused by the environment. Enhanced Photofacial with DiamondTome Microdermabrasion

Our clients are getting rave reviews and increased ROI with IPL & DiamondTome (diamond microdermabrasion) enhanced photo facial. Here are some key points about enhanced fotofacial treatments WITH DiamondTome diamond microdermabrasion.

Treatment begins with DiamondTome microdermabrasion. We recommend a double cleanse, degrease, then 2 passes with the DiamondTome diamond microdermabrader. This initial exfoliation gently removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells (the stratum corneum), preparing the skin for the enhanced photofacial.

Think of the removal of the stratum corneum as “cleaning the window” before you shine the light through it.

The stratum corneum is a truly amazing design! It’s like a flexible suit of armor that resists environmental pollutants, contamination, and yes, even the penetration of light, (especially UV, but all wavelengths degrade as they pass through the stratum corneum).

Removing this layer of concave, opaque dead skin cells allows better light penetration of all wavelengths, resulting in an enhanced Photofacial. Better light penetration equals more selective photo thermolysis, and that means better results!  Enhanced fotofacial with DiamondTome diamond microdermabrasion is especially effective for acne and sun damaged skin.

Since DiamondTome is crystal free you can immediately apply contact gel after microderm and perform your fotofacial within your standard recommended parameters.

At about 7 days post treatment, have your client back in for another DiamondTome diamond microdermabasion treatment to accelerate the slough and photo facial recovery.

Our clients typically build in a 10-20% up charge for enhanced photo facial with DiamondTome, (a $300 Tx is $330-$360 if it’s enhanced with DiamondTome).

DiamondTome microdermabrasion and IPL enhanced photofacial go a long way to improve  acne scars, stretch marks, age spots, enlarged pores, wrinkles, rosacea, sun damage and bags under the eyes, resulting in an increasingly soft, smooth and clear appearance. Your clients will be glowing!
